After a childhood of writing stories and creating print-out magazines with Paint on her family computer, Amanda Sherring defied her family’s seemingly chosen career of nursing to pursue the life of a journalist.

A course at Deakin University majoring in journalism (which she graduated with distinction) helped fuel her desires which helped land her a role as Deputy Editor at local music, arts and culture magazine, Forte.

Within three years she was promoted to Editor and Editor in Chief, where she managed a small team of staff and decided the overall direction of the magazine – editorially and creatively.

Through her work Amanda has interviewed famous musicians, writers, sports stars, comedians, actors, film-makers and more. When she’s not writing you can find her bruising her knees front row at a gig, spending time with her cat Cesky (named after her favourite town Cesky Krumlov) or getting sand stuck between her toes at Torquay beach. Much like the picture suggests!

She hopes to one day travel around the world, finding new potential cat names and writing about her experiences and daily discoveries while abroad.

This portfolio aims to show her work in a clear and concise manner, but also to entertain.

Amanda has written for:

Forte Magazine, Switch Magazine, the Echo, Geelong NEWS, gt magazine, YouthCentral, TimeOut (online), Beat Magazine, Geelong Advertiser, The Brag, The Burn Magazine (Swinburne University), Screen Magazine, E&D Magazine, On Pako Magazine and Express Media (Buzz Cuts).
